the South West Washington Area.

Friday, May 15 was competency demonstration day at the
Skill Center. This is where the students demonstrate their knowledge of
various math and layout skills. This year they had to demonstrate to an
advisor that they could perform the math, layout of a common rafter,
wall plate, and stair stringer. Dave Maret and John John Weber, Clark
County Senior plans examiners representing South West Chapter ICC
participated as advisors. The students demonstrated a high level of
construction competency. The grading was simple. Either they passed or
did not demonstrate knowledge. Both advisors witnessed demonstrations
from high school students that some carpenter journeymen and
construction trade professionals would have a difficulty in performing.
The Chapter supports the skill center in various ways and has recently
made a contribution towards a student scholarship.
